For those reasonably new to online baccarat, some of terms used in this guide may be unfamiliar. If so, here is a comprehensive glossary of terms used.
- Banker bet:
- To bet that the hand of the banker will win the round.
- Betting limits:
- The minimum and maximum amounts of money that can be placed on one bet.
- Chemin de fer:
- A variation of baccarat named after the French term for "railroad".
- Chips:
- Tokens used on casino tables to represent money.
- Commission:
- A percentage of the winnings that the casino takes to make a profit. In baccarat, 5% is typically taken from winning bets on the banker.
- Deal:
- The distribution of cards to the players.
- Even money:
- A bet that pays you the same amount as your wager. Such as the banker and player bets in baccarat.
- Face cards:
- All the jacks, queens, and kings in a deck of cards.
- Hand:
- A hand is when cards are grouped together in an attempt to create a combination. In the case of baccarat, this is the baccarat score.
- House edge:
- The advantage that a casino has over the player.
- Mini-baccarat:
- A less formal version of baccarat with the same rules.
- Natural:
- When a two-card hand creates a baccarat score of eight or nine.
- Player bet:
- Betting that the player's hand will win the round.
- Progressive:
- A jackpot that increases as a result of a percentage of each bet.
- Punto banco:
- A variation of baccarat also known as North American baccarat.
- Tie bet:
- To bet that the player and the dealer will have the same baccarat totals in their hands.
